Mailgraph Installation Troubles

I just installed mailgraph on a Gentoo system running Postfix.  There doesn't seem to be a lot of specific documentation out there on the subject.  I followed installation instruction from:

All of the necessary components are present based on the information included in the above installation instruction.  I am able to access http://myserver/cgi-bin/mailgraph.cgi.  The mailgraph web interface loads but the graph images do not load.   I am interested in a description of how mailgraph actually works.  Is there any helpful documentation on this that I may not have come accross yet?
