There might be a problem after all.
I installed the mysql-server-5.0.22 package. When I tried to set the
root passwords, the command:
/usr/local/bin/mysqladmin -u root password <password>
worked fine, but when I tried to run:
/usr/local/bin/mysqladmin -u root -h homebox.localnet.dot password <password>
I got the message:
/usr/local/bin/mysqladmin: connect to server at 'homebox.localnet.dot' failed
error: 'Host 'homebox.localnet.dot' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server'
I'm guessing that it's an error with MySQL and not DNS. I don't know anything about databases though.
