some nifty options for you:

du --max-depth=3 -x ~wsampson |sort -n

:)

you can try to add -h ("human") but then sort will be messed up because
of the units (K, M) etc

Or, if you absolutely need some kind of windooze solution, use konqueror
or nautilus (or even other file managers) and they'll give you that
information and more... but du is the bes solution
