Changing from dhcp to static - wrapup

I have no idea how, but as I sat here wondering one of my computers just 
beeped, notifying me that I had mail.

Before that I had stripped down my pf.conf to bare bones, flushed the rules 
and after a while the email came in. Putting the original pf.conf in place 
did not show any difference, it still worked.

What changed? Nothing as far as I can tell. 

Maybe there were old pf rules that needed to be flushed. In the end that 
seemes most logical as it came on after that.
