courier imap pop3 directory problem?

As far as I remember, I used maildirmake to create maildir items in 
/var/mail/user.

I'm now using dovecot with sieve, postfix and maildirs in /var/mail. Not 
much different to the courier setup.

I've not used any webmail package, so can't help with /var/www/users. I 
would have thought that the webmail app would use IMAP over the 
loopback, so it would be actually talking to /var/mail/user.
